FORTH demonstrates the EEHRxF proof of concept, through Integrated Care Solutions, during the x-eHealth Hackathon for chronic disease management online event.
The innovative applications of the Center for eHealth Applications and Services (CeHA) of the Institute of Computer Science (ICS) of the Foundation for Research and Technology – Hellas (FORTH) were presented on 9 June 2022, during the online X–eHealth Hackathon for Chronic Disease Management (7-9 June). More specifically, the FORTH team proof of concept showcased how the use of the European Electronic Health Record Exchange Format (EEHRxF) specifications under development can be used in both scheduled and unscheduled / emergency hospital care. The event was coordinated by the Hellenic Ministry of Health, in collaboration with HL7 Hellas and the coordinators of the European X-eHealth project.
It is important to note that the European Commission recently announced a proposal for a regulation on the European Health Data Space, which describes, among other things, the process for certifying medical software applications in the use of the EEHRxF standards and specifications, which are expected to form the basis for specifications related to the registration and exchange of electronic health data.
The members of the CeHA team that presented Integrated Care Solutions were Dr. Angelina Kouroubali, Collaborating Researcher at FORTH-ICS, Coordinator of the FORTH reference site for active and healthy aging, Fellow of the International Academy of Health Sciences Informatics, Mr. Georgios Kavlentakis, coordinator of the software development team of CeHA, Mr. Vassilios Tzikoulis, and Ms. Georgia Magoufi. The team presented medical and nursing applications, part of the Integrated Care SolutionsTM, software suite, and the use of technical implementations using HL7 FHIR, HL7 CDA, and IHE XDS. Emphasis was placed on the presentation of implementations for the exchange of laboratory tests results, medical image reports, hospital discharge reports and the use of patient summaries specifications.
Since its establishment, the main goal of CeHA has been the development of digital solutions for the citizens, in compliance with existing and upcoming national, European and international standards and regulations. The quality and flexibility of all innovative Integrated Care SolutionsTM applications that FORTH develops, already in use by a variety of healthcare providers, enhances CeHA's competitive edge nationally and internationally. Integrated Care SolutionsTM support the digital transformation of health and continuity of care, by simplifying processes and workflows, while at the same time effectively contribute to the provision of high-quality services, better cost control, support to health professionals, and empowerment of citizens.
