Dr Manolis Tsiknakis is an affiliated researcher at the Computational Medicine Laboratory (CML) of the Institute of Computer Science, FORTH.

Short CV

Prof. Manolis Tsiknakis received his Master (1983) and PhD (1989) degrees from the University of Bradford, UK. He performed his post-doctoral training at the University of Bradford (1990-1991) and the Institute of Computer Science at FORTH (1992). Subsequently he was elected as a Principal Researcher at the CBML of FORTH/ICS, acting as the lab Director between 2000 - 2006. He was the recipient of FORTH’s award for the most innovative applied research in 2004 and was an eEurope/eHealth award winner in 2003. Since 2012 he is a Professor of Biomedical Informatics and eHealth at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the Hellenic Mediterranean University in Greece and a visiting Professor at FORTH/ICS. He is the author of over 300 publications. His main areas of expertise include approaches for semantic health data integration and interoperability of health information systems; affective computing and its application in developing smart eHealth solutions; service platforms for pervasive eHealth and mHealth services (h index: 31).

His current research interests are in the following areas:

• Service oriented SW architectures and their application in biomedicine

• Approaches for semantic health data integration

• Enterprise integration strategies and patterns

• Smart eHealth and mHealth service platforms

• Managing technological change and socio-economic aspects of eHealth technologies and services.

Awards

• The paper "A. Kouroubali, D. Vourvahakis, M. Tsiknakis: Innovative Practices in the Emergency Medical Services in Crete," received the best paper awardat the iSHMIR 05 Conference, Sept 2005. ( www.seerc.info/ishimr2005/index.html).

• Dr Tsiknakis received the 2003 FORTH’s award for best applied research. This is an annual award given by FORTH to innovative research and technological achievements by its researchers in the domains of basic and applied research.

• The Regional Health Information Network of Crete "HYGEIAnet" was selected a finalist (among more than 180 contenders) at the ministerial conference and exhibition eHealth 2003, that took place in Brussels on May 2003 and received an honourable mention (the second prizein the Regional Health Information networks category).

• The Poster "ECG in Your Hands: A Multi-Vendor ECG Viewer for Personal Digital Assistants" by F. Chiarugi, M. Spanakis, PJ. Lees, C. Chronaki, M. Tsiknakis and SC Orphanoudakis received the best poster awardat the Computers in Cardiology 2003 (CiC 2003) Conference, Sept 2003.

• PhD fellowship (1985 - 1989), School of Control Engineering, University of Bradford funded by the British National Research Council.
