The Summer School “CIDOC CRM Interoperability and Applications” (https://isl.github.io/cidoc-crm-ss-2025/) took place with great success from Monday, July 21 to Friday, July 25 2025, at the main building of the Foundation for Research and Technology – Hellas (FORTH). The event was organized by the Centre for Cultural Informatics (CCI) of the Institute of Computer Science (ICS) of FORTH.
The school welcomed 20 participants from 9 countries, including postgraduate students and faculty members from international universities. The main focus was the international ISO standard for cultural documentation, CIDOC CRM, which has been widely adopted worldwide. Today, 40 international organizations participate in the committee responsible for its development and maintenance.
The program covered topics such as conceptual modeling, transformation, and access to cultural data using the CIDOC CRM standard, as well as modern artificial intelligence methods and their application to real-world challenges.
Participants attended an intensive program combining theoretical sessions with hands-on exercises, and expressed great enthusiasm for the knowledge and skills they gained. The school was chaired by Chrysoula Bekiari (Head of National Programs at CCI), Maria Theodoridou (Head of European Programs at CCI), and Yannis Tzitzikas (Professor at the Department of Computer Science, University of Crete, and Head of CCI).
Notably, the CIDOC CRM standard originated at the Institute of Computer Science of FORTH, in collaboration with members of the Department of Computer Science at the University of Crete. It is the result of more than 30 years of continuous work, with FORTH continuing to lead the committee for its development and maintenance to this day.
