RECLAIM’s participation in Greece’s leading environmental, Verde.Tec, which took place on 21-23 February 2025 at the MEC Exhibition Centre in Paiania, was a great success.
As part of the 8th edition of the exhibition, the Greek Green Awards 2025 honored organizations, local authorities, and businesses that have leveraged scientific knowledge and technological innovation in service of the environment.
The RECLAIM project, which developed the world's first portable robotic unit for sorting recyclable materials, received the Green Innovation Award for its contribution to sustainable waste management.
At the exhibition, attendees had the opportunity to see the robotic system in action and discuss with project representatives how this system can achieve decentralized management of recyclable waste in remote and island regions of Greece.
Additionally, the coordinator of the RECLAIM project, Michail Maniadakis from the Institute of Computer Science at FORTH, moderated a panel discussion titled "Mobile robotic unit for sorting recyclable materials: Enhancing the sustainability of recycling in remote and island areas." The panel included Mr. Manolis Grafakos, General Secretary for Waste Management Coordination at the Greek Ministry of Environment and Energy; Mr. Yiannis Razis, General Director of the Hellenic Recovery Recycling Corporation; Mr. Giorgos Iliopoulos, President of the Hellenic Solid Waste Management Association; and Mr. Kostas Komninos, CEO of DAFNI, a local authority development organization representing 52 island municipalities.
