This workshop will give an overview of the activities carried out within the SpeechXRays H2020 project in order to start testing the multi-modal biometric solution developed in the project. We will give a brief presentation of the project, followed by a historical survey of biometrics and will then overview the three use cases that will test the SpeechXRays biometrics solution. To test the multi-modal biometric solution developed with the SpeechXRays H2020 project we have performed a series of statistical analyses on the Romanian and Greek languages to determine a set of test sentences that are representative for these languages. We will also present a tentative global assessment framework that takes into account a wide series of parameters which go from the intuitiveness of the interface to the robustness of the application over a broad set of hardware configurations.
Dr. Alexandru Nicolin started his physics studies at Politehnica University of Bucharest, Romania, in 2000, and then moved to University of Copenhagen, Denmark, from where he graduated in 2008 with a Ph.D. in theoretical physics. Following his Ph.D., Dr. Nicolin joined The Horia Hulubei National Institute for Physics and Nuclear Engineering in Magurele, Romania, where he is currently a Senior Scientist with the Department of Computational Physics and Information Technologies. In 2014, Dr. Nicolin defended his Habilitation Thesis at Politehnica University of Bucharest, where he now serves as Ph.D. supervisor.
Georgios C. Manikis joined the Computational Medicine Laboratory (CML) at the Institute of Computer Science of FORTH in 2010, where he is currently a technical staff member. He holds a Master degree in Electronics and Computer Engineering from the Technical University of Crete.
He has been working on various national and EU projects as a research assistant and software developer. His research interests are in the areas of software development, medical image processing, modelling of biological processes, biostatistics and machine learning with applications in classification, feature extraction, data mining and integration.
Dr. Marios Spanakis is a collaborative researcher with the Computational BioMedicine Laboratory (CBML) in the Institute of Computer Science of the Foundation for Research & Technology - Hellas (FORTH). He holds a B.Sc. and a Ph.D. in Pharmacy from the School of Pharmacy of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. The diversified knowledge, specialization and research interests revolve around the wide scientific domain of Pharmacology and mainly on Pharmacokinetics (PK) and Pharmacodynamics (PD). In CBML his research activities are related with computational medicine and in silico pharmacology. His research is focused on the assessment of physiologically based models for evaluation of PK/PD profiles of drugs and imaging biomarkers towards novel approaches of personalized and stratified medicine. Furthermore, his pharmaceutical background and expertise in pharmacology is utilized in CBML regarding the development of innovative personalized health services for achieving optimum therapeutic outcomes toward patient’s health and quality of life. Till today, his research findings have been published in a series of peer-reviewed international journals and conferences and have gain attention from the scientific community with more than 200 citations.
