The future Internet of Things (IoT) Ecosystem with wireless and mobile devices in its core, is promising a wide range of new applications and services. This web of mobile devices and the new, often resource-hungry applications, churn out huge volumes of data, which call for high-speed, energy-efficient wireless networks. However, our extensive monitoring study of currently deployed wireless networks and mobile devices shows that, they are often low speed and energy-hungry. The root cause is that, state of the art wireless protocols are user-agnostic and oblivious to the high-throughput wireless radio features (e.g., MIMO) used by the next generation wireless networks. To this end, we design new wireless protocols to boost wireless speeds at a low energy budget, and to improve user experience.
Ioannis Pefkianakis is a Researcher at Technicolor Research Paris. Before joining Technicolor, Ioannis completed his Ph.D. in the Computer Science department, at the University of California, Los Angeles. During his Ph.D., he worked on MIMO wireless at Meru Networks and on building Virtual Radio Access Networks at Alcatel-Lucent Bell Labs. His research interests include wireless networking and mobile computing.
