This presentation is divided in two parts. The first part is a brief overview on the Tromso Telemedicine Laboratory (structure, research areas, motivations and objectives).
The research areas of interest are: integrated medical sensors, health terminals for personalized health care, health intelligence, computer-aided diagnosis, workflow management, clinical decision support. Some projects in these specific areas will be presented as well. The second part is a more extensive presentation on Disease Surveillance Project and particularly on Disease Surveillance for Sensitive Population Groups (SPGs), which is a new approach in the field. Along with the basic disease surveillance concepts, the main aspects of our approach and the expected outcomes will be presented.

Taxiarchis Botsis holds a PhD in Health Informatics; he works as a Post Doctoral Researcher at the University of Tromso (Department of Computer Science, Medical Informatics and Telemedicine Group, Norway) and participates in projects coordinated by the Norwegian Center of Telemedicine. Also, he has working experience in European Research Technology and Information Projects and International Clinical Trials.
His current primary research interests are targeted on the Disease Surveillance for Sensitive Population Groups. Apart from the conference and journal publications related to his work, he has published a book in Health Informatics (Taxiarchis Botsis, Stelios Halkiotis.
