Description:

The Institute of Computer Science of FORTH (http://www.ics.forth.gr) at Heraklion, Crete, Greece, has an immediate opening for a full-time software engineer position, to work on efficient NoSQL systems for modern multicore servers in the context of an EU-funded research project.

Applicants must have:

• A B.Sc. in computer science or related fields
• Documented experience in the development of large software projects, with preference in those related to any of the following fields: data storage and management, "NoSQL" database management systems.
• Strong systems review and analysis skills
• Fluency in C, C++ and Java
• Familiarity with at least one NoSQL system (e.g. HBase, Cassandra, Redis, Dynamo)
• Willingness and ability for cooperative work in the context of a research team

Desired skills:

• M.Sc. in computer systems
• Experience on concurrency issues, inter-process communication and multi-threaded programming
• Experience with performance measurement and optimization
• Experience with test-based development
• Experience with cloud computing platforms (e.g. Amazon AWS)
