A 3-year Graduate Research Assistant position in the areas of Concurrency and Parallelism, to start in 2014, is now available in the CARV Laboratory of the Institute of Computer Science, at FORTH. The position addresses early stage researchers willing to pursue graduate studies at a nearby University (e.g., Univ. of Crete) and may require applicants to be enrolled in the corresponding graduate programme.
The goal of the project is to develop a language and runtime system for the distributed execution of irregular queries in datacenters. Research will involve theoretical work regarding query language abstractions, synchronization and dependencies, as well as implementation work regarding the building of a distributed runtime to manage scheduling of tasks and data traffic, porting and testing benchmarks, and comparisong and integration with existing execution engines.
Candidates are expected to have a degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or equivalent, and a broad range of skills including understanding of theoretical computer science, good programming skills, language implementation skills, and fluency in English.
Interested candidates should submit a detailed curriculum vitae, statement of purpose, official transcripts, and contact details for three referees who, upon request, can provide recommendation letters. The consideration of the applications will start immediately.
