The importance of the documentation and management of source material is commensurate with that of the same procedures applied to the artefacts themselves; in an intergrated approach to the management of cultural information, the two are both conceptually and functionally interconnected. Systems for the documentation and management of SGML encoded documents are designed at the Centre. Methods and systems for the representation of SGML data types in object oriented Semantic Index System formats are under development. In their turn, these permit the unified indexing of documents based on their meaning content and structure.
