Description:

The Institute of Computer Science (ICS) of the Foundation for Research and Technology – Hellas (FORTH) offers graduate research assistant positions/fellowships in the area of computer networks. In particular, we can support motivated MSc or PhD students at a nearby University to conduct research in one or more of the following areas:

  • Software-defined networks (SDN)
  • Internet routing (BGP, etc.)
  • Internet measurements
  • Network monitoring systems
  • Network economics

The positions are supported by the new European Research Council (ERC) project NetVolution, which seeks to improve the reliability and security of the Internet routing system based on SDN principles (and in particular SDN logical centralization at the inter-domain level). NetVolution provides funding for five years to conduct research on Internet routing, software-defined networks, security, and Internet measurements. We collaborate closely with several institutes and in particular with the groups of Prof. Bernhard Plattner in ETH Zurich and Dr. Kc Claffy in the University of California San Diego (CAIDA). For more information about our research please refer to the publications in www.fontas.net.

FORTH, which is the largest research organization in Greece, provides a highly competitive working environment, while the island of Crete was according to CNN one the top-10 most attractive destinations in Europe in 2013. In addition, we offer possibilities for short visits, e.g., in the groups of our collaborators.

The positions are in the group of Prof. Xenofontas Dimitropoulos. Interested candidates send your applications to xdimi@ics.forth.gr and include the following information: 1) a cover letter, 2) a curriculum vitae, and 3) a list of people that could provide references for you, and 4) (if applicable) your two most significant publications. Applications will be evaluated every two months and selected applicants will be invited for an interview. Early applications are welcome.
