[ICS-2378] Call for expression of interest for one (1) position for an R&D Engineer with a degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering

We seek one (1) recent graduate Engineer with a degree in Computer Science or Computer for our team. The candidate will participate in the R&D activities of FORTH in the context of the EC-funded project RISER. The RISER project will develop and validate open-source designs for standardized form-factor system platforms suitable for supporting cloud services, featuring RISC-V processor chips from contemporary European initiatives. Specifically, RISER will build two cloud-focused platforms: (1) An accelerator platform, in the form of a PCIe acceleration board designed for integration with HPC servers; (2) A microserver platform consisting of RISC-V chips coupled with high-speed storage and networking. The open-source system board designs of RISER will be accompanied by open-source low-level firmware and systems software, and a representative Linux-based software stack to support cloud services, facilitating uptake and enhancing the commercialization path of project results. Three use cases will be developed to evaluate and demonstrate the capabilities of RISER platforms: a) Acceleration of compute workloads; b) Networked object and key-value storage; c) Containerized execution as part of a provider-managed IaaS environment. The RISER consortium consists of seven partners, from academia, research centers and industry.

We seek a software engineer, specifically an BSc degree holder in Computer Engineering or Computer Science, with background in European and/or National RTD Projects, to assist in the project activities, in particular for the design and implementation of semantic data integration services for cultural heritage data repositories. The candidate will participate in the R&D activities of FORTH in the context of the project: ATRIUM: Advancing fronTier Research In the arts and hUManities, funded by the European Commission under the Horizon Europe Programme (HORIZON-INFRA-2023-SERV-01-02), Grant Agreement ID: 101132163”.ATRIUM aims to improve access to leading research infrastructures in the Arts and Humanities by enhancing the quality of metadata in existing catalogues and repositories. This involves developing solutions for metadata quality assessment, curation, and enrichment, as well as creating feedback loops between catalogs and data providers. With a particular focus on archaeology, ATRIUM will expand services such as optical character recognition (OCR), handwritten text recognition (HTR) and automatic speech recognition (ASR).

The candidate will participate in the R&D activities of FORTH in the context of the EuroHPC JU-funded project NET4EXA. The NET4EXA project aims to create an advanced interconnect, which will scale to hundreds of thousands of computing nodes and will support modern HPC systems that are designed for massive AI tasks, such as the training of Large Language Models. The interconnect forms the backbone of such systems, and their overall performance is intimately tied to the scalability of the network and its tight coupling with the high-end compute elements.

[ICS-2262] Πλήρωση δύο (2) θέσεων έκτακτου προσωπικού κατόχου μεταπτυχιακού διπλώματος ειδίκευσης στην υπολογιστική όραση

Στο πλαίσιο της υλοποίησης του έργου «UnobtrusIve Capturing of HUman Motion ArticulatioN and Semantics», ακρωνύμιο «I.C.HUMANS» και Κωδικό 91 που χρηματοδοτείται στο πλαίσιο της «1ης Προκήρυξης Ερευνητικών Έργων ΕΛ.ΙΔ.Ε.Κ για μέλη ΔΕΠ και ερευνητές/τριες και την προμήθεια ερευνητικού εξοπλισμού μεγάλης αξίας», το Ινστιτούτο Πληροφορικής του Ιδρύματος Τεχνολογίας και Έρευνας (ΙΠ-ΙΤΕ) προτίθεται να απασχολήσει δύο κατόχους μεταπτυχιακού διπλώματος ειδίκευσης στην υπολογιστική όραση. Στο πλαίσιο του εν λόγω έργου οραματιζόμαστε και αναπτύσσουμε μεθόδους και τεχνικά συστήματα που επιτρέπουν χαμηλού κόστους, μη-επεμβατική μέτρηση της ανθρώπινης κίνησης και τη σημασιολογική ερμηνεία των ανθρώπινων δραστηριοτήτων, με βάση οπτική πληροφορία. Σε μια εποχή όπου το οπτικό υλικό (εικόνες, βίντεο, κλπ.) παράγεται με εκρηκτικούς ρυθμούς, τέτοιες μέθοδοι και συστήματα βρίσκουν εφαρμογές σε ποικίλους τομείς και οι εφαρμογές περιορίζονται μόνο από την φαντασία. Οι υπάρχουσες μέθοδοι για ακριβή καταγραφή και ερμηνεία της ανθρώπινης κίνησης είναι επεμβατικές (απαιτούν ο άνθρωπος να φοράει ειδικές στολές ή/και δείκτες) και βασίζονται στην ύπαρξη ογκώδους και δαπανηρού εξοπλισμού που μπορεί να εγκατασταθεί μόνο σε εργαστηριακά περιβάλλοντα. Σε αυτό το έργο, στοχεύουμε στην ανάπτυξη μεθόδων και συστημάτων που επιτρέπουν την ακριβή και μη επεμβατική καταγραφή και ερμηνεία της ανθρώπινης κίνησης με οικονομικά προσιτές και ευρέως διαθέσιμες κάμερες. Για το σκοπό αυτό, θα αναπτύξουμε μεθόδους και συστήματα για την καταγραφή και ερμηνεία της ανθρώπινης κίνησης που χρησιμοποιούν ανθρώπινα 3Δ μοντέλα τις οποίες θα συνδυάσουμε με τις ταχέως εξελισσόμενες προσεγγίσεις μηχανικής μάθησης.

[ICS-2261] Call for expression of interest for two (2) positions of Postdoc experienced researchers in the Institute of Computer Science (ICS) Foundation for Research and Technology – Hellas (FORTH)

We seek two Postdoc ‐ experienced researchers in Computer Vision with background in RTD projects. The candidates will participate in the R&D activities of FORTH‐ICS in the context of project “SOPRANO – Socially-Acceptable and Trustworthy Human-Robot Teaming for Agile Industries”, funded under Horizon Europe, Horizon – CL4 – 2022-Digital – Emerging – 02 and will work on topics related to computer vision. SOPRANO addresses both the synergistic task execution by humans and robots as part of the collaborative robot paradigm, and the strategic role of intelligent multi-robot systems where distributed and interconnected robots, with different characteristics and functions, are intelligently orchestrated to perform tasks whose complexity and cost are too demanding for a single robot to accomplish on its own. The project aspires to scale robotics collaboration from the single human-robot dyad to a peer-based synergy between heterogeneous robots featuring different physical and cognitive properties, supporting various tasks in collaboration with humans or other robotic agents. SOPRANO aims to design the next generation of multi-human multi-robot systems to support more flexible, resilient and reconfigurable agile processes. These will be showcased in three use cases, namely next generation manufacturing floors, automated construction sites, and smart agri-food production where humans and intelligent machines seamlessly work together. The selected candidates will contribute in tasks regarding the visual perception of a robot’s environment and visual SLAM in particular. One will be employed full-time and the other part-time.
