The candidate will participate in the R&D activities of FORTH in the context of the EuroHPC JU-funded project NET4EXA. The NET4EXA project aims to create an advanced interconnect, which will scale to hundreds of thousands of computing nodes and will support modern HPC systems that are designed for massive AI tasks, such as the training of Large Language Models. The interconnect forms the backbone of such systems, and their overall performance is intimately tied to the scalability of the network and its tight coupling with the high-end compute elements.

[ICS-2301] Call for expression of interest for one (1) position for an R&D Engineer with a degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering

We seek one (1) recent graduate Research & Development Engineer with a degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering for our team. The candidate will contribute to the R&D activities of FORTH in the context of the EC-funded project HIGHER, particularly in (i) development of low-level control firmware and system software, and (ii) validation and evaluation of use cases. The HIGHER project follows the Open Compute Project (OCP) Server family of standards to build processor modules for computation and acceleration, alongside a system security/control module. The project aims to build modular rack-scale systems, running with fully-featured operating systems and runtimes, and incorporating reusable standards-based infrastructure that encompasses hardware, low-level firmware, and systems software, while ensuring trustworthy functionality for managing, securing, and controlling servers. The project's open-source hardware and software outcomes will enhance European Digital Autonomy and facilitate wide adoption. Furthermore, the project will assemble representative software stacks supporting a range of use cases, including accelerated data processing and analysis for converged Cloud and HPC platforms, Infrastructure-as-a-Service with standardized management and monitoring, Platform-as-a-Service facilitating large-scale data processing for ML inference and data analytics, and memory pool management at the server rack level, with access control safeguards aligned with maturing CXL standards.

[ICS-2270] Call for expression of interest for one (1) position, for one (1) Archaeological Scientist with expertise in Archaeology & Museology

We seek one experienced archaeological scientist with expertise archaeology & museology specialized in informatics with background in European and/or National ICT RTD projects. The candidate will participate in the R&D activities of FORTH-ICS in the context of the project PULSE-ART. The candidate will work with: (a) conceptual modelling of cultural heritage objects, (b) design and implementation of ontologies and schema mappings using semantic web technology standards and tools.PULSE-ART will produce compelling evidence illustrating the positive impact of arts in education for the enhancement of cultural expression and awareness (CAE). At the heart of this initiative lies the concept of integrating art, culture, and heritage institutions, including museums, galleries, cultural centers and overall CCIs, into the educational framework. This integration aims to effectively address the deficiencies of the educational system, hindering the improvement of CAE through the arts. Reference materials will be created and integrated into the Arts in Education for Cultural Awareness Observatory, including a competency Framework, a Professional Development Programme and a self-reflection tool, which will be validated and tested through 7 case studies in 7 countries using different art techniques with a lifelong learning perspective. Collaborative Hubs between educational institutions, spanning all levels of education, and art and cultural heritage organizations will be created to bridge the identified gaps through innovative and tailored methodologies of arts in education, leveraging the expertise and fostering partnerships.

By structuring data with standard vocabularies and ontologies, the project will enhance data interoperability, making FishBase more discoverable and accessible for both humans and machines. This shift will allow seamless data exchange across domains and enable more complex and meaningful data queries. In addition, it will enable richer, more meaningful and complex data queries and analysis by relying on semantic relationships between entities. As a semantic web knowledge base, its contents can be queried using SPARQL. Furthermore, a dedicated API will be implemented as a versatile gateway for accessing the wealth of resources of the knowledge base in different formats and standards. We seek an experienced software engineer, holding a MSc in Computer Science, with background in European and/or National RTD Projects, to assist in the project activities, in particular for the design and implementation of ontologies and semantic data integration services for biodiversity data. The candidate will participate in the R&D activities of FORTH in the context of the project: VeriFish: The sustainability indicator framework to communicate responsible aquafood production and consumption patterns, funded by the European Commission under the Horizon Europe Programme (HORIZON-MISS-2023-OCEAN-01-10), Grant Agreement ID: 101156426”.VeriFish project aims to deliver an indicator framework to facilitate understanding of the complexity that lays behind the definition of sustainable seafood, to enhance communication about the importance of production and consumption of sustainable seafood and aquaculture. Despite its potential advantages in terms of climate impact, sustainability, and nutrition, seafood is frequently disregarded or lumped together with meat. The potential benefits of seafood are often overlooked, particularly in the transition towards a sustainable, equitable and balanced protein system. Seafood consumption in Europe is low compared to meat products, and locally produced seafood often cannot compete with imported products because consumers do not know about or value local seafood. To enable healthy and sustainable choices, consumers need information about sustainability and nutrient values as well as provenance and potential health risks and benefits. In this context, VeriFish will work on the creation of a prototype web application, a series of media products and recommendations for communicating sustainability indicators to various stakeholders including guidelines for retail and the hospitality sectors. The goal is to provide an accessible and dynamic framework for the improvement of communication and understanding of sustainable seafood production and consumption.
