About CeHA (Center for eHealth Applications and Services)
The Center for eHealth Applications and Services (CeHA) of FORTH is a business unit of the Institute of Computer Science (FORTH-ICS). It operates as part of the Computational Biomedicine Laboratory (CBML) of FORTH-ICS and its work focuses on the transfer of research results into operational use, with the vision of providing immediate and effective care where needed. Its mission is to develop innovative, user-friendly, personalized digital tools to support effective and sustainable health services for all. It systematically transforms its many years of research experience and know-how into innovative solutions in the field of eHealth, creating products and services for both the Greek and international market. Software developed by CeHA have been installed and operated in more than 60 health units in Greece. They are suitable for medical doctors, nurses, administrative personnel, patients and their relatives, caregivers, telephone operators, dispatchers, civil protection, welfare, as well as the general public. They support our health system against the pandemic and beyond a daily basis. All applications have the ability to communicate electronically with each other, but also with third-party applications and devices, to record multimodal types of data in order to support the desired workflows, support automation and decision support. In order to provide better local support, CeHA has offices and staff in Heraklion, Athens and Patras. It is certified according to ISO 9001 for the Implementation of Health IT projects, while the security of information is ensured by the application of a Quality Management System certified according to ISO 27001 in line with ISO 27799. Nursing and Medical Applications of CeHA, which are part of the software suite “Integrated Care Solutions”, bear the Seal of Quality Electronic Health Record (EHR) Level 2 from the European organization EuroRec. In 2022 it also received the ISO 13485 certification for the quality system it applies for the design, development, supply, configuration and technical support services for software as medical device for IVD. Emphasis is placed on cultivating strong partnerships for more efficient technology transfer. CeHA is a member of the coordination team of the four-star FORTH Reference Center for the European Innovation Partnership for Active and Healthy Aging that brings together the "quadruple helix" of innovation such as universities, research centers, health organizations, businesses and civic associations in a single ecosystem, to highlight and create new technologies and services to improve the health and lives of older people. A very important initiative is the creation of the first collaborative digital innovation cluster, the Hellenic Digital Health Cluster, in collaboration with the PRAXI Network, which was recently selected by the General Secretariat for Research and Technology (GSRT) for funding. Its goal is to transfer the know-how and innovation of FORTH to Greek companies, in order to integrate the country among the leading countries in the field of digital health worldwide, with multiple benefits for the national economy and for the citizens individually. CeHA has received a large number of awards in national and international innovation competitions, during the past few years. The Integrated Care Solutions application suite has received a gold award in the category of digital applications for the management / support of health units (2019), as well as the initiative in which it participated for the creation of the Reference Center of the European Innovation Partnership for active and healthy aging in the category National / Regional Health Initiative (2020), thus highlighting FORTH-ICS as the first in the category "Top Universities - Research Centers - Educational Institutions" of the Healthcare Business Awards for 2020. The following year CeHA received an award for the creation of the Hellenic Digital Health Cluster, thus contributing to the award of FORTH as the "Top Research Foundation" of the Healthcare Business Awards for 2021. In 2022, the Center was awarded Platinum and Gold awards at Healthcare Business Awards, and FORTH was announced top Research Center, while in 2023 the Center received the Gold award in the category "Hospital Information system" for the software suite Integrated Care Solutions: Automation of mass billing of chronic patients for submission of claims to insurance funds at Dafni and Dromokaitio psychiatric hospitals. For its total performance, with 5 more awards in other categories, FORTH was once more awarded as the “Top University – Research Center/Institute” at Healthcare Business Awards 2023.
