Post-genomics and relevant biotechnology advances promises to change and even revolutionize the way genomic medicine is done. Taking advantage of these advances Pharmacogenomics (PGx) – the amalgam of pharmacology and genomics, aims towards the discovery, analysis and interpretation of findings that (directly) relate the genetic affects on individuals’ response to drugd. In this setting, the call is for multidisciplinary approaches based on a portfolio of interoperating translational or clinical biomedical informatics components and their alignment with contemporary information engineering and processing approaches. Trying to cope with these needs eMoDiA builds around two pillars that expose the project’s scopes and objectives: (a) molecular investigation: high-throughput molecular experimentation targeting the induction of genomic biomarkers and their wet-lab validation, and (b) IT customization & advancement: integrated data management and processing infrastructure coupled with security and authorization services targeting the formation of a knowledgeable biomedical research assimilator, and aiming to serve discovery-driven bioinformatics approaches, and sharing of clinicogenomic information. The benchmark clinical domains and the focus of the project are on BPD (BiPolar Disorder) and ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) neurological diseases.
